Common Doubts Before Taking the First Step

Starting therapy can feel intimidating. These are the most common hesitations people have before reaching out, and how I actually approach them.

I'm not 'broken' enough for therapy. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people come during fairly steady times to work on relationships, stress, or personal goals. Talking with someone before things feel overwhelming is a good reason to come too.

I'm not sure I can afford therapy. I keep my rate at a flat $89 per 50-minute session. While I don't bill insurance directly, I provide detailed superbills you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement, and we discuss payment openly during your free consultation.

I don't have time for weekly sessions. Therapy should fit into your real life. We can meet weekly or bi-weekly depending on your goals and schedule. Sessions are at my office in Siloam Springs or online, though sessions with children are always in person. We can find a time that works for you.

What if the therapist judges my family or my choices? My job is never to evaluate or judge you. As a counselor and a parent, I know how hard life and parenting can be. My goal is to create a calm, safe room where you and your child can be completely honest without fear of criticism.

I tried therapy before and it didn't help. Not all therapy is the same. A past experience that didn't help may mean the approach, the timing, or the match with the therapist wasn't right. In our free call we can talk about what didn't work before, so you can decide whether this feels like a better fit.

I should be able to handle this myself. Asking for help is a normal, human thing to do. Just like you'd see a doctor for a physical injury or a trainer to improve your fitness, therapy provides professional support for emotional challenges. You don't have to carry everything alone, and you deserve support.

My problems aren't serious enough. If something is affecting your daily life, relationships, or sense of well-being, it's worth addressing. You don't need to compare your struggles to others or wait until things get worse. Reaching out early, while things still feel manageable, is a perfectly good time to start.

What if I need therapy forever? We work toward goals you choose, and we check in on progress regularly and adjust as needed. The aim is for you to leave with tools you can use on your own, not to keep you in therapy. You decide when you're ready to wrap up.

Still have questions? The best way to know if therapy is right for you is a free 15-minute consultation.
